#HerStory Vs History
India’s fight for Independence is marked by the greatest of freedom fighters. From Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru to Vallabhbhai Patel and Shastri. History books are filled with their heroic sacrifices. Films have been made. Statues have been erected. And their birth centenaries have been celebrated. Yet somewhere in the eulogy, a handful of freedom fighters with the same surnames have gone completely missing from the nation’s mind. Presenting #HerStory. On 15th August 2024, India’s Independence Day, Linc Pentonic, one of India’s largest pen brands, came up with a series of digital films to write history in a new light. This series of films told the unknown story of Gandhi, Nehru, and Patel. They were not Mohandas, Jawaharlal of Vallabhbahi, but in fact their better halves or daughters who were great freedom fighters in their own right. Their sacrifices and efforts were in no way less than their famous husbands or fathers but somewhere in history, #herstory got completely lost. With these films, not only was the nation awakened to the valiant deeds of these brave women, but history was rewritten in a way where #herstory got its deserving place in the pages of India’s freedom struggle.
