ABOUT
Microsoft approached our DE team with a brief to promote their new Plants Vs. Zombies XBOX game. With a budget of 200k, they were looking to enhance awareness of the game as well as to the XBOX brand as a whole.
Their brief was scare in terms of creative direction, with just the game name and a website link to use as a guideline and grab assets from where possible.
As Plants Vs Zombies is a very visually engaging and unique game, I wanted to replicate this in the design by incorporating a lot of the characters and elements that make the game so recognisable.
The client had said there would be some rich media and perhaps tv ad video to be used, so I created 2 creatives that had a different KPI focus:
1) One as structured around the video, reporting on video views, engagement as well as clicks. It kept the fun, engaging design without taking too much attention from the video. By using positioning elements like the characters eye-line, I ensure users attention would be diverted to the video placed in the centre of the unit.
2) The 2nd concept focused much more on the awareness and engagement side, bringing in some highly interactive elements. This concept looked to promote the XBOX brand as well as the new game itself. By using the iconic XBOX controller as the main navigation, it was instantly recognisable and the controller buttons pull on user instinct to be clicked. I ensured the layout and user journey was similar to that of the XBOX so they would be easily able to navigate, and pulled on brand trust to keep users interacting for longer. There were many CTA's throughout the unit that would direct you to an external site.
