ABOUT

“The weight of perfection” • on show at Cupra City Garage • Rua Áurea 64 • until 22/06/22

Here I explore the idea of perfectionism and its limitations by experimenting with error and just letting things flow. (Not worrying about the final result, but enjoying the process)
These 3 sculptures are inspired by the shapes of african women that carry heavy objects on their heads as a way of moving them around during their day to day. The limitations of perfectionism are compared to the balance and expertise that these strong women need in order to live. Procrastination, the fear of failing and anxiety are some of the little (or big) objects we carry around with us throughout our lives. We get too used to carrying such an unnecessary load that limits our self acceptance, spontaneity and creativity.

All the pieces were made with different kinds of reused/recycled wood. Each piece has a different texture and is unique. All the pieces can be interchanged to become something new.
