ABOUT
The Intra Venous Cartridge Pump (IVCP) project is the outcome for the RSA Student design award where the brief was to design a medical project that would take into consideration the mobility of the user. The condition that was taking in mind for this project affects about 1 in every 50,000 people and requires transfusions of white blood cells on a regular basis, taking up to 6 hours in hospital for each treatment. There is currently only one product on the market that allows for the patients to have the treatment within the comfort of there own home. However the negative aspects of this product still confine users to the house due to its lack of portability and it being non user friendly. The solution was IVCP which replaces the traditional syringe with a pre loaded cartage containing the required amount of white blood cells, concealed in a medically sterilized plastic cartage. This replacement of the syringe means that the overall size of the pump could be reduced making the device smaller and neater, allowing it to incorporate more up to date technology such as digital screens and rechargeable batteries.
