ABOUT
This was my final project in my masters in Post Production for TV that I completed in 2017. I met the main contributor during a previous project (Finding The Light - a short documentary about a theatre group which I edited and produced) and made a great working relationship with her. We collaborated on this project to create an interesting and entertaining documentary about both her life as a stand-up comedian and also how that ties into her experience living with the chronic disease endometriosis. Amy began incorporating this into her stand up, and got some interesting feedback, both good and bad! Not everyone was happy with her discussing her vagina on stage, which led to interesting discussions on sexism in comedy. The documentary was also intended to raise awareness, as this disease is often mis-diagnosed and patronised by doctors who minimise it into period pain.
I created this documentary with the help of only two other people and I had major input on every part of the process. My focus was on editing throughout as that is where my focus lies. The story was picked up by newspapers and they featured my documentary, which enforced the idea that this was an important story.
