ABOUT

Short Stories for Tired Parents” results from an informal research of traditional Portuguese legends and tales.

This piece is presented as a collectable and consists of a card box, and 10 “cheat” cards in 1 mm thick 80X130mm (3,1X5.1”) cardboard for handling purposes. Each card has an illustration on its front and a story on its back, based on tales and stories picked all over continental Portugal and the islands of Madeira and Azores. These stories were re-written and condensed, thinking about those parents with the strenuous task of reading the same bedtime stories, every night.

The 10 stories included in this collection of 10 numbered and signed items that shouldn’t be read ipsis verbis. Written in a semi-literary style, some of these stories may contain local jargon, slang and some sexual, racial and religious innuendo. Even in more progressive households, the parents should adapt the language to their kids’ age, training themselves on their inventiveness, interpretation and narrative competencies. These rules are justified, despite all the style adaptations, the author wanted to keep the story and its characters untouched.
