ABOUT

Phison challenged us to create a bold new brand that would enable them to expand into the enterprise storage market while staying true to their core customer base. The task was to define and deliver a distinctive brand visual identity and narrative that would appeal to enterprise decision-makers and support Phison’s growth ambitions in a highly competitive space.

CONCEPT
For over 25 years, Phison has led the way in storage innovation, combining end-to-end expertise with advanced technology to deliver full SSD and storage solutions—through both white-labelled client offerings and direct-to-market embedded solutions. This traditional focus enabled the company to establish a unique and flexible business model and earn significant authority in the storage industry – without heavily promoting its brand. However, in order to achieve their ambitious growth targets, Phison set their sights on expanding into the enterprise storage market.

While Phison’s role as an ingredient brand in the client market didn’t demand high visibility, the enterprise landscape is a different beast. In a world where trust, authority and reputation are everything—and where buyers rarely stray from the suppliers they know—brand perception plays a critical role. Phison challenged us to build a bold new brand that would break into this space of datacentre OEMs, distributors, and hyperscalers, while still honouring the trust of its legacy customer base. The brief was clear: create a distinctive brand identity and narrative that would capture the attention of enterprise decision-makers and support Phison’s ambitions in a highly competitive, yet lookalike market.

We began Phison’s brand transformation with comprehensive industry research, competitor analysis, and stakeholder interviews in collaboration with an industry expert. This process revealed several key insights that guided our branding approach. Most notably, while competitors were universally focused on off-the-shelf SSD products with similar messages and visual presentations, Phison had the opportunity to reach new audiences by telling a distinctive story centred on customisation, partnership, and delivering added value that transcends being ‘just an SSD vendor.’

Having unearthed those insights, we developed a brand strategy and compelling narrative structured around key principles: vision, values, positioning, and functional pillars. Central to our strategy was the platform and tagline, “Engineering Imagination, Together,” combining and highlighting Phison’s unique selling propositions that we identified in the research phase.

The interplay between “Engineering” and “Imagination” encapsulates Phison’s balanced approach to innovation in storage technology, blending practicality and precision with aspiration and creativity. This holistic strategy not only acknowledged the dogmatic status quo of the enterprise market and the challenges faced by its players but also highlighted how Phison’s unique capabilities as storage innovation leaders could effectively address those challenges. This foundation informed the development of our communication strategy and visual identity as we moved forwards.

EXECUTION
To support the enterprise brand’s SSD portfolio, we developed a distinctive name – PASCARI.  An acronym encapsulating the key characteristics of their SSDs: Performance, Acceleration, Security, Capacity, AI, Reliability, and Innovation. The logo, inspired by the Phison “+” symbol, forms a “P” resembling an abstract racetrack finish line, again symbolising speed and performance.

We crafted a dynamic and optimistic visual identity for Phison’s product brand and service offerings by leveraging yellow’s associations with creativity, innovation, and energy. This strategic use of yellow differentiated Phison in the enterprise market, as none of its competitors utilised this colour, making it a unique, ownable and recognisable brand element that complemented Phison’s existing parent colours.

We enhanced the parent brand’s “+” design element, creatively integrating it in both large and small formats to consistently highlight Phison’s added value, with flexible options for how it could be used. We also introduced additional graphical elements tailored to Phison’s various enterprise product ranges, fostering visual recognition and distinction between those ranges.

To unify the brand’s visual identity, we adopted a sophisticated black-and-white aesthetic for hero imagery, placing focus on people and outcomes while allowing the new ‘Enterprise yellow’ to stand out with a light-on-dark pop—drawing attention to key brand elements and guiding the viewer’s eye to critical visual touchpoints. This strategy aligned the aspirational nature of our messaging with emotive and human themes, creating a memorable visual impact that conveyed both intelligence and trustworthiness. This approach was highly distinctive in the enterprise market, ensuring that Phison stood out as a leader in storage innovation.

Finally, to ensure a successful brand launch, we developed comprehensive brand guidelines with clear instructions for both narrative and visual elements. To add a touch of flair to the launch, we created two impactful videos, each with a distinct purpose:
- An enterprise overview video that encapsulated Phison’s enterprise value propositions, blending live-action footage with dynamic 3D motion.
- A brand overview video that vividly communicated the new brand’s characteristics and narrated the PASCARI story through energetic motion graphics.

RESULTS
Although recently launched, the internal reception has been incredibly positive, with stakeholders from across the organisation embracing the new direction. Feedback has centred on how proud teams are to now have a brand that matches the innovation and ambition of the business. The brand has already helped to open doors to exciting new conversations with enterprise clients and partners — including a groundbreaking collaboration with Lonestar to develop lunar data centres — laying a strong foundation for a greater market presence and future commercial growth. The brand’s creative approach and strategic storytelling have been widely praised for helping Phison with their transition to a customer-facing brand in the enterprise market.

“I cannot thank you enough for all the work that you’ve done to make this happen – from start all the way to the finish line. We’re now ready to step confidently out of the shadows and make a bold, impactful entrance into the enterprise market. This would not have happened without you and your amazing creativity, timelines, flexibility, and tireless dedication!!!!”
