ABOUT
Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.
Wilfred Owen 1893 – 1918
Part of my current MA was to illustrate a poem through type. I chose this one by WWI poet Wilfred Owen.
Same type sizes and weights were used to show the same feeling from each line, a detached and more matter of fact message.
The relative calm of the first verses and the panic and tension of the gas attack were kept apart as much as possible, blank spaces put more time between the events.
To give further meaning to the piece the ideal context would be to engrave it as a monument. Not to oppose the ones celebrated, but to give the other side of the war the same emphasis and context.
