ABOUT
Brief
Creative conscious, look for solutions and provocations that will call people to action and lead to a genuine impact.
Concept
My focus for this brief was on Generalised Anxiety Disorder. Anxiety is the feeling of unease such as worry or fear. My initial thoughts for this project were typical to someone not suffering from anxiety. Anxiety is basically stress, and “stress can be solved by calming down”. These thoughts led me to researching into the different methods of relaxation.
After further research I discovered that symptoms of anxiety are rarely visible but often affect the simplest of tasks making it difficult to understand for people who don’t suffer from the illness. When suffering from anxiety, “calming down” is not as simple as it sounds and when this is suggested to cure the symptoms it can be frustrating. I felt that from the point of view of someone with anxiety, a breathing exercise as the solution did not show a good understanding of the illness or represent it as a real one.
Solution
I chose to illustrate an anxiety attack in the form of a distorted breathing exercise. Anxiety is represented by the glitches and distorting effects I have added to my relaxing breathing exercise. With the aim of showing the difficulty you would have, ‘calming down’ whilst having an anxiety attack.
