ABOUT

Pistabrownie is a short film proposal about an interfaith family’s love. It shows us that interfaith couples are just as capable of nurturing a loving family environment as any other couple. It captures a family dinner scenario, where the Middle-Eastern Muslim aunt comes to visit the interfaith family of her Muslim brother, with her European origin wife and their mixed-race daughter. They bake together and eat together.

The limited colour palette makes the film aesthetically appealing, still highlights the racial differences between the characters. ‘Pistabrownie’ is also a little wordplay, referring to the brownie they bake and the ‘Pista’ meaning pistachios in Urdu, which commonly used and grew in the Middle-East, and at the same time, ‘Pista’ is a traditional Hungarian name. The idyllic insight lets us consider second thoughts on racial and faith mixing within households and show that all that doesn’t matter if you truly love each other, at the end of the day we’re all just human.

Due to the length of the time-frame given for the project, this film has been made to help to visualize the concept and show potential for a longer version.
