Tim's work
About Tim
After the disruption of a divorce and a relocation, I am looking for employment in a design and print context that will make use of my training and experience. I am looking for full time permanent employment, and I am willing
(and anxious) to make a further relocation.
I have spent much of my career working on a freelance basis, and I am used to doing most things on my own responsibility, with frequent client contact. I have also had periods of formal employment working in team situations, but usually taking on a higher level of responsibility anyway. I'm also longer in the tooth than most, so my training was for print, though I am used to producing both physical and digital artwork and combining the two.
Due to some disruptions to my working patterns in the past few years I have not been working regularly, but I have kept in touch by taking on small graphics jobs. I currently use industry standard Adobe software - Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign (I have also used equivalent Serif software for the same purposes as InDesign, for compatibility with clients requirements), but I don't find the use of new software difficult to pick up. I work mainly in a PC environment for the convenience of interaction with other programs and for economy , but I also have previous experience of using a Mac. I use Microsoft Office programs, and also sometimes Open Office too for its ability to save in a wide variety of formats - also WordPerfect - an old version that handles type beautifully in a way that Word has never quite caught up with.
Although I have worked mostly as a sole practitioner, I have also worked in team situations and am able to both contribute to the work, and take useful input from other team members. I am always looking for the best that can be done for the job. I am also capable of producing high quality work using traditional means and materials, and incorporating them within digital formats. I concern myself more with producing good graphics than developing extreme digital expertise, but I learn the use of new programmes easily, and update them as necessary. I hope to be busy and involved, to make effective contributions (both in graphics and in copywriting, though I also have skills in photography, music, crafts, printmaking and other areas that are sometimes useful) and I want to make this move a long term commitment. Having trained for print, I am used to the idea that my work exists in the real world to be handled and interacted with, not only on screen. I am used to dealing with printers and outside suppliers of services to obtain value for money, but always with an eye to good quality. I am open to new learning and experience, and look for opportunities for self improvement - I believe this is benefits me, but is also reflected in the improvement of the job I do.
