Thomas Pilott 3D Generalist

ABOUT

Concept
Escape is my final major project for the BA (Hons) Animation at Ravensbourne University London, created over 12 weeks as a 3D generalist piece. Inspired by Pwnisher’s Kinetic Rush community challenge, the film follows a character escaping a dystopian laboratory and explores control, surveillance and reconnecting with nature.

Execution
I developed the concept and handled the full production, including modelling, texturing and materials, layout, rigging, animation, VFX, lighting, rendering and compositing. The film was produced primarily in Autodesk Maya and rendered with V-Ray, progressing from blockout and asset creation through character setup, effects and the final composite.

Results and recognition
Completed a 3D animated film with supporting production breakdowns. Received Rank A in 3D Animation at the Rookie Awards 2026.

Production notes
Mixamo was used for the initial animation blockout, and a small number of free 2D textures were used in the scene. AI tools were used only for technical troubleshooting and limited assistance with parts of the 2D texture work. All other work and final creative decisions were my own.
