About me

Dear Madam,

With reference to your advertisement for a Production Editor, I would like to express my interest in the position.

Having worked in the industry for many years, rising to senior positions in all three companies I have worked for, makes me believe I could be a major asset to any company.

I rose to senior positions within all three companies I worked for through a mixture of hard work, knowledge of the products, and proving I was the best person to deal with the pressure of deadline-driven schedules.

At the Financial Times I was employed to help set up and organise an in-house repro department. As a hands-on Production Manager, in charge of pre-press technicians and copy chasing team, part of my job was to ensure all deadlines were met with regard to incoming copy and release of pages to twenty-four print sites all over the world. I have also spent time working with all departments, mostly editorial production, that are linked to the production of daily newspapers/magazines and their associated products etc, - advertising, planning, production control.

I was instrumental in many ways in moving the company forward with regard to the digital arena. Setting up of an in-house studio which covered all the pre-press work for the FT, changing from film to digital, cross-training of staff, merging copy-chasing with pre-press area, new colour proofing system, file validation systems, were just a few of the projects I helped to drive forward. I have worked on deadline-driven schedules in all my positions and have been very successful and thrived under the pressure of putting the jobs to press on time.

Externally, I built up excellent relationships with many suppliers, Vio, Agfa, Quickcut, Colorbus, numerous London pre-press houses which supplied advertising material (Keenes, Admagic, etc), and internally created a first-class, efficient working relationship with all editorial production, picture desk, advertising and design departments.

Previously to the Financial Times, I was Colour Department Manager at The Independent, where I was brought in at launch to help set up and manage a new in-house repro department, which proved to be very successful. Our department looked after all colour work for the newspaper and magazine. After the Independent moved to Canary Wharf, I was asked by the Director of Operations at The Independent to move with him to help set up a new in-house department at the FT. Again this proved hugely successful, saving the company a vast amount by moving all repro in-house.

I left the Financial Times to have a career break. I now wish to get back into a challenging role and feel given the opportunity with your company, I can prove to be a valuable, hard-working member of the team. As you see from above I have always been successful at whatever task I have taken on, have lots of ideas, always give maximum effort and have always had a first-in, last-out attitude.

I hope to you find my cv of interest and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Your Sincerely,

Mr T. F. Moran.
