ABOUT
Avanti’s Cardiogym CG6 is a US patented compact gym which provides both cardio and strength training in a single workout cycle. Since the equipment is deployed at fitness centres it required flair of energy in the combination of industrial and interaction design. Crafting a design experience complementing the cutting edge Avanti Cardiogym CG6, apt for lifestyle of fitness enthusiasts!
Establishing the context and vision
The CG6 relies on the touch interface for controlling and interacting with the user. Being packed with capabilities like media playback, quick set goal and virtual instructor, the initial sketches were aimed at establishing the visual hierarchy and information design.

Industrial design
Industrial design for CG6 focused on design of touch screen console that housed various utilities in addition to its interactive screen. Physical interface was designed to maximize usability with the console offering quick start/pause/stop keys in addition to a reading pane and a slot that housed iDevices.
Other element of focus was CFM for the entire equipment that highlighted the variations of the environments where the CG6 could be used.
‘Touch and go’
Workout options can be intuitively selected from home screen by stretching out the palm and tapping on the desired option. This five finger interface came to be the hallmark of the product.
Iconography
Being an offering for the fitness sector, it was important to iconograph to allow for faster decision making. The buttons were stylized to feel very ‘tactile’ for the users not comfortable with the touch interfaces.
Rich exprience
The visual design has been enriched with vibrant colours and highlights for the high adrenaline environment of the gym. Touch affordance allowed ease of use even during working out.
Data representation
Post session statistics in exercise are crucial for self-development. Data representation took centre stage so that they are available up and front to the user.
