ABOUT

Brief:
When we launched our new visual identity, we didn’t anticipate the reaction it would provoke. Marketers from the world’s largest pharma, life sciences, and healthcare companies were drawn to the heart iconography, not just its symbolism, but the story it told. People were intrigued by our experimentation, testing the boundaries of artificial intelligence as a creative tool.

We saw an opportunity to engage them further: could we bring our AI-generated hearts into the real world, blending cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship? Our goal was simple: create a tangible platform for human stories and expression, where every heart was unique, yet universally resonant.

Idea / Concept:
Inspired by the response, we set ourselves a challenge: use AI not to replace human creativity, but to enhance it. Working with ceramists, animators, cardiologists, and fine artists, we set out to create ceramic hearts that were the same size and weight as a human heart.

The process mirrored a clinical trial - experimenting, failing, and iterating, until we discovered a technique that successfully translated AI-generated concepts into handcrafted reality.

Visiting the historic Barlaston factory in Stoke-on-Trent, home to Wedgwood and the archives of the V&A, we recreated traditional stencil techniques and augmented them with AI insights, blurring the line between human and machine creativity.

Execution:
Each heart was individually cast and fired, reflecting the distinctiveness of each human story.
The creative process included:
• Using AI to explore form, pattern, and symbolism.
• Translating AI outputs into handcrafted ceramic forms.
• Collaborating with artisans to refine and realize each piece.
• Engaging marketers directly by incorporating their ideas and perspectives into the final designs.

After months of experimentation and many broken hearts, we produced a collection of tangible, handcrafted ceramic hearts. Each piece embodied human craftsmanship guided by AI insight, showcasing that technology can amplify creativity rather than replace it.

Impact / Results:
The ceramic hearts became a powerful engagement tool, sent to those who had initially interacted with our AI-generated work. They sparked conversations, reframed perceptions of AI in the creative process, and positioned our brand as a forward-thinking partner for life sciences marketers.

By fusing human skill with artificial intelligence, we demonstrated that creativity is not replaced by technology—it is enhanced by it. The project created a memorable, tactile, and deeply personal experience that resonated with industry leaders and elevated our brand beyond a visual identity.

Why It Matters:
In an era where AI often sparks fear of replacing human creativity, our project shows a different possibility: AI as an ally, amplifying human ingenuity, craft, and storytelling. Each heart represents not just the innovation of the process, but the human stories at the heart of every brand interaction.
