The brief: Barbican’s 2018 programme was themed “The Art of Change”: to celebrate this, the organisation wanted to develop its first ever editorial content series, with a new short film released each month that explored a different element of social change.
The solution: The Smalls took on the brief and used its network to find 12 emerging filmmakers, each of whom developed a treatment, curated by The Smalls, for their idea for the next month’s film.
The diversity of The Smalls’ network meant the subject matters, ranging from Feminism to Disability to Finding Your Voice, were brought to life in a mix of styles, from documentaries, to animation, to mixed media with a poetic voiceover. The content runs across Barbican’s digital media and has gathered PR with the Evening Standard and Refinery 29.
