ABOUT

Brief in Brief:
On International Women’s Day 2017 a befitting brief from the Maiden Factor landed on our desk. The Maiden Factor, a not-for-profit established by inspirational yachtswoman, Tracy Edwards MBE, approached us to craft a brand mark as fearless as Tracy herself.

Taking its name from Maiden – the first boat to be sailed around the world by an all-female crew captained by Tracy – The Maiden Factor came to us with an inspirational story and an incredible mission of empowering girls around the world by giving them access to education. And with its iconic boat set to return home after 27 years, The Maiden Factor needed a logo to carry its bold vision of female empowerment into the future.

Solution: Women at the Helm

Concept: Our creative inspiration came from the boat’s helm – a distinct, visual metaphor, connecting the brand to The Maiden Factor’s nautical heritage and reflecting how the organisation steers the way in empowering girls through education. We fused this with the universal gender symbol for ‘female’, repeated around the wheel to pay tribute to the nature of women coming together

Having locked down the fundamentals of The Maiden Factor’s brand, we then brought world-renowned craftsmen Chris Mitchell and Chris Weir on board to help refine the design. The result? A bold and sophisticated brand mark that will stand the test of time.

Launch Date: April 2017
