About me
To Whom It May Concern:
I am a recent Masters of Furniture Design Graduate from Central St.
Martins. Please allow me to tell you a little more about myself.
My undergraduate degree was in interior architecture which I completed
with honors at Parsons School of Design in New York City in 2006 and
began working immediately with high end interiors company Studio
Sofield in Manhattan. During my four years there, my design experience
varied from commercial projects such as Gucci and Tom Ford boutiques,
to bespoke residential interiors in America and Europe, to lighting,
furniture and product design for our private clients as well as for
the furniture company Baker, part of Kohler Inc. Working very closely
with Bill Sofield and the rest of my design team taught me the extreme
importance of detail, proportion, the combination/transition of
materials and budget, whether they are applied to the design of a
chair or the architecture.
From May 2009-May 2010 I traveled through Asia and the Middle East.
Throughout the year I was involved with Habitat for Humanity as well
as researched and documented my experience of various cultures through
sketches, photographs, and writings. My topics of exploration varied
from fashion, furniture and interior design, jewelry, architecture, as
well as product and ceramic design. This experience allowed me to
understand the origin of most design inspirations and see how design,
furniture for example, is used and translated by other cultures.
The influence of my travels became the primary focus of my Masters
Thesis at Central St. Martins. The aim of the final furniture
collection was to examine the changes in values of the luxury industry
and to express the growing influence of globalization. I felt it was extremely
important for me to hand make all the pieces myself, to understand the
furniture making and lacquering process.
