Syncsmith Frome

ABOUT

As part of Pride month we were invited by Mercedes Benz & Studio Amos Fricke to capture the spirit of Pride through a prismatic lens…focused on hyper-realistic Sound Design + exploratory sonics to evoke the LGBTQ+ community.

Here’s Nick Worrall (Wordcolour) on the thought process behind the rotational sonics…

“I was interested in the optical illusion of the spinning wheel. Your eye can’t seem to focus on every spoke and so you get this sense of pulsing, then slowly rotating, then rotating backwards. I wanted to capture this sense of overlapping pulses and speeds, like wind through a helicopter rotor. I layered synths and white noise, with overlapping tremolo and phaser effects which slowly shift speeds and pitch to mimic what the eye is seeing. I also chose a bright euphoric synth chord which I felt captured the feeling of the reflected rainbow colours.”
