ABOUT
THE STORY | A HOT SAUCE WITH BIGGER AMBITIONS
DevilDog had built a loyal following with a range of chef-made hot sauces that put flavour at the heart of everything. Created by people who understand food, these were sauces designed to bring depth and character to everyday cooking.
But the brand had ambitions to reach a wider audience. Its existing identity wasn’t reflecting the quality of what was inside the bottle, or giving people enough reason to pick it up in an increasingly crowded market.
THE FRICTION | LOST IN THE HEAT OF THE COMPETITION
Hot sauce has become a category obsessed with extremes. Bigger heat, louder claims, more skulls, flames and warnings. It’s a familiar language that appeals to chilli enthusiasts, but can leave everyday food lovers wondering whether the product is really for them.
DevilDog was getting caught in that same conversation, despite having something quite different to offer. Its chef-made credentials were being overlooked, and the people most likely to appreciate its sauces weren’t being given a compelling reason to choose them.
THE SHIFT | EVERYONE NEEDS A FLAVOUR COMPANION
We saw an opportunity to take DevilDog out of the heat competition and into the kitchen, repositioning it as a premium condiment brand for people who genuinely love food.
“The Flavour Companion” became the idea that brought everything together. It gave the brand a clear audience, a more meaningful proposition and a personality people could warm to.
The dog mascot became the friendly face of that shift. Mischievous rather than menacing, with a playful tone of voice that encourages people to experiment and have a little more fun in the kitchen. Together, they transformed DevilDog into a brand that feels at home wherever good food is being made, shared and enjoyed.
