Studio Firin Bristol

ABOUT

Exterior study of Nottingham Contemporary, the city's landmark art gallery in the historic Weekday Cross quarter. Designed by Caruso St John and opened in 2009, its precast concrete façade is imprinted with a lace pattern — a deliberate tribute to Nottingham's lace-making heritage. The result is a building that remembers what the city made, its surface shifting between texture and light depending on the hour. This shot frames the façade as the subject in its own right: industry, memory and geometry held in concrete.
