ABOUT
South East London Folk Collective (SELfolk) gather each weekend to practice and perform throughout my local area.
I ‘hand-crafted’ new logotype letterforms to represent the orchestra, choir, dancers and other folk activities which they encompass.
I based these identities on the idea of ‘types’ coming together in different ways in order to produce coherent whole units.
The SELfolk website needs to a ract musicians, singers and dancers to join, also to promote the work of the collective, inform locals interested in ‘folk-related’ activities and to provide resources for musicians.
I designed, created and built the website working with the leader of the orchestra (who also works as a web developer). From the start we agreed the website design had to be suitable for viewing on computer, tablet or smart phone but particularly good on the iPad, a popular tool for musicians.
The site was designed to sit within a tight and consistent frame with a strong grid structure. All text information is kept short and to the point. Folk engraving illustrations on the website are all traditional, by Thomas Bewick or similar.
