ABOUT

International education is now Australia’s third largest export, with campuses competing on a global scale. UNSW Global offers pathway programs to UNSW Sydney, a top 50 world-ranked university.

The 2019 Student Guide had to present the best opportunity to kickstart a global career, with world-leading teaching and facilities, in Sydney a thriving financial and cultural hub. The broad target audience included: future students, who are teenaged; their parents and teachers, active participants in students’ decision-making; and international student advisors.

Our concepts were considered the best visual solution via a competitive, paid-pitch process. Our injection of vibrant colour gradients was adopted organisation-wide. Intimate portraits of current students carried first-hand accounts of students’ experiences. Working with Department Heads, we restructured course outlines and developed pathway diagrams to help students understand and design pathways.

The guide was translated into multiple languages, so copy had to be easy to translate and cultural sensitivities had to be considered. Portraiture and depictions of real students experiencing campus life replaced stock photography. Customised iconography and illustrations made text-heavy pages easier to understand, and visually more engaging.

Portraiture, custom illustrations and depictions of real students experiencing campus life replaced stock photography — “the team have continually said they think this is the best design we have ever had”. Focus groups provided user insights for the 2020 student guide.
