ABOUT
Australia is one of the most digitally active nations in the world and payments have rapidly evolved. 2016 was a landmark year for payments — the number of electronic transactions, such as ‘tap-and-go’, exceeded cash payments for the first time.
The Australian Payments Network (AusPayNet) is a self-regulatory body, with over 120 members, that champions innovation and efficiency for our national payment systems. Its stakeholders collaborate and adapt to new technologies, and this was an important theme for the 2016 Annual Review. The payments industry is transforming rapidly, and so it was fitting that AusPayNet were after a radically different appearance to their report.
In its simplest form, a payment is the movement of money. Using the circles as a universal symbol of a coin, we created a visual language. Imagery reminiscent of digital pixels were created using thousands of circles, and even page titles were constructed with them. Original illustrations focussed on technology and people interacting with new electronic transaction formats, and were supplemented with a photoshoot which we art directed.
Over a series of consultations with AusPayNet, we built an in-depth understanding of key messages to share with the press. Detailed infographics highlighted trends and were reconfigured to encourage sharing amongst the financial community. Following a record number of downloads, Another Colour was reappointed to art direct and design the 2017 Annual Review.
