About me

My career in UX began when I was the Editor of PC Magazine. As part of our service to readers we built the world's first magazine usability lab to test and evaluate software. It was these kinds of innovations which led the magazine to be awarded PPC Magazine of the Year. I was later recognised as a columnist of the year in the PMA awards.

PC Magazine recognised the value of the Internet early (awarding Demon Internet an award when few had even heard of the term) and PCMagazine was one of the first few hundred sites in the world even beating it's US parent to the web. I later moved on to managing the web sites which included a number of high traffic sites including Gamespot.

Once leaving publishing I became a web consultation and have been a Senior UX Designer and Researcher for nearly 20 years. As you will see from my CV, I have worked for a wide range of organisations both and small and have learnt how to quickly adapt to the company culture and development style.

My approach to UX is firmly rooted in Design Thinking. Beginning with gaining a firm understanding of the domain, the user, their goals and challenges I create a series of designs based on this research which I share with stakeholders and users until a final design is agreed.

I work closely with the development team to ensure they understand the user stories and my solutions. Finally, on launch I will then interview or shadow users to assess their acceptance and create a feedback report which will form the basis of further iterations of the site.
