About me

Stephen Raburn is a social entrepreneur, father, activist, daydreamer, lecturer, writer, and champion of children's causes who spent the first two decades of adulthood in the nonprofit sector, primarily in a leadership role. His training and background is in child psychology.

​Stephen is recognized as an impassioned child advocate. He founded and directed a number of child-serving and community-based organizations, including The Center for Child Advocacy and Research, based in Napa, CA and a special needs adoption agency in Charlotte, NC. Stephen has given talks and delivered key-note addresses on a variety of children's issues at dozens of conferences across the US.

​Writing has always played an important role in Stephen's work. A number of his articles have appeared in magazines, newspapers and professional journals.

​After dabbling in the publishing industry for the past few years as a freelance writer, editor and children's book author, he decided to fully launch Raburn Publishing in 2013. At present, Raburn Publishing has nearly 20 print and electronic books on the market, representing a number of awesome authors and genres. Stephen's latest book, "The Unraveling and Other Stories," is a collection of his short stories, essays, and articles; it can be ordered on the Raburn Publishing website. .

Stephen lives in Durham, NC with his two amazing daughters Xia and Anika. He loves hot days, trippy music, hoppy beer, the Outer Banks, Duke basketball, punctuation and giraffes.
