Spareroom Macclesfield, Cheshire

ABOUT

A series of films giving SpareRoom's users the opportunity to ask politicians what they will do, if elected, to tackle the UK's housing crisis.

THE BRIEF

SpareRoom is the UK’s number one flat and house share website. In the lead up to the 2015 General Election they were keen to create a conversation with their 6.1million users around housing issues affecting them. our brief was to produce a series of branded content that would engage with their YouTube audience.

OUR APPROACH

Working closely with SpareRoom’s Marketing and Communications team we produced two programme strands of branded content. The first set of videos involved an appeal to SpareRoom users to send us their questions for parlimentary candidates for the main five parties. The key issues raised were letting agent fees, rent controls, getting on the housing ladder, standards in rented properties and affordable housing supply.

We briefed contributors to film their questions for us to present to each candidate and setup a studio to present the questions to each candidates and film their answers in real time. The second programming strand was a conversation between each parlimentary candidate and SpareRoom’s Matt Hutchinson, exploring each Party’s policy and if elected, how they intend to tackle the UK’s housing crisis. The films were hosted on a microsite, launched in April 2015.

"We chose Digitom for their experience and knew we were getting a safe pair of hands. What we got in the end was so much more, turning a good project into a great one in the process.

The attention to detail, from pre-production, right through shooting and editing resulted in a set of films we’re incredibly proud of." Matt Hutchinson, Communications Director, SpareRoom
