According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 2011 Child Abuse Survey in South Korea, the total number of child abuse reported to the central child protection agency for the past five years totalled 29,381.

In addition, 79.7% of the perpetrators were found to be parents. In the type of child abuse, complex abuse accounted for 41.40%, abandonment 33.30%, psychological abuse 13.88%, physical abuse 6.93% and sexual abuse 4.50%.

Psychological abuse, also called emotional abuse, can be defined as a series of forms in which a parent or caregiver has a significant impact on a child's cognitive, emotional, social, and psychological development.

In the case of child abuse caused by psychological factors, as it is invisible, it is often overlooked how the minor behavior of the parents affects the child.
