For this project, I immersed myself in areas in and around the Victoria line, observing things I usually wouldn’t. I noticed how much chewing gum residue remains on the streets of London.
This raises questions about the effect of these pieces of plastic on our surrounding environment. I started to study this flat, round shape. With reference to Graham Harmans ideas on Object Oriented Ontology, I started to think of ways to create something that represents what exists in an object other than its function and aesthetic. I decided to give human characteristics to this object as a way to promote object empathy.
If i was this discarded piece of gum, how would I feel?
