ABOUT
‘Avoid gigs with children or animals and never take up work featuring both. That’s DIRECTING 101 stuff’, sighed the director as the shoot ground to a halt ten minutes in. It had just transpired that, despite earlier protestations, our precocious star was after all afraid of her bovine co-lead (a cow that went by Miche in character and, most pleasingly, Zebra in real life.) It took several on-site re-writes, a massive re-jig of the shooting plan and a whole lotta girl power before man and beast went their separate ways 23 hours later.
The Bulgarian division of Meggle, a venerable Bavarian dairy, had great expectations for the series of commercials: it was supposed to put the brand back on the map after several lean years. They definitely had a story to tell: their product line had been vastly improved and diversified to reap the rewards of both German expertise and premium, locally sourced Bulgarian raw materials. By the time the agency got involved, they also knew who’d be telling the story – a child-prodigy who at the time of the shoot was already boasting her own TV talk show at the ripe old age of almost six.
