The now defunct adventure company 53ºEast specialised in desert activities ranging from weekend dune-bashing to two-week tours of the Omani and Saudi parts of the Empty Quarter, the world’s largest continuous desert. As part of the website upgrade deal they had with the agency, 53ºE had also commissioned a special write-up on the Empty Quarter package – so before he could say Rub' al Khali, this here copywriter was dispatched to tag along with one of the pilot expeditions preceding the launch. The resulting travelogue-cum-testimonial and the redesigned website won a bronze Dubai Lynx, Oman’s first award from a major internationally recognised award show.
