ABOUT

Founded in 1871, Exeter Chiefs are now the 2016-17 Aviva Premiership Rugby Champions – playing in the top level of domestic rugby union in England. They also compete in the Anglo-Welsh Cup and European Champions Cup competitions. Their rise to stardom has been legendary in the sport, having only moved up into the Premiership in 2010 – and we are delighted to welcome them as one of our major new clients.

The Why:

In mid 2017, we were invited to share an invitation to tender for the Chiefs’ graphic design services by their incumbent agency – Exeter-based JJC Design. By working closely with JJC, we were able to bring together ideas based on over 25 years of past knowledge of the club, coupled with our fresh creative thinking, and additional services and capabilities. This enabled us to prepare a combined response, which fully demonstrated our understanding of the club’s marketing challenges, and their need for innovative thinking and fast delivery – all of which resulted in us being selected as Exeter Chiefs’ chosen design partners.

The What:

Since the new relationship commenced, we have been designing at a pace, already working on numerous projects for different areas of the club. This includes The Trading Post, the official club store; Community Chiefs, whose key focus is to encourage and inspire young players to reach their full potential; and The Exeter Foundation – the Chiefs’ associate civic trust, which is responsible for pursuing the vision of people who live and work in Exeter and the surrounding areas.

We have also focused heavily on redesigning Exeter Chiefs’ matchday programme, to bring a fresh and more contemporary presentation to this mandatory, yet very collectible, item. In addition, we have developed new email marketing templates, digital adverts and short animations – and even designed packaging for a new line of home-made Pork Scratchings. Or should we say ‘Chiefs’ Scratchings’! At every step of the way, our goal has been to raise the service delivery expectation of our client – and to ensure that the consistency and integrity of their brand is maintained at all times.

Beyond this, we are also working with Sandy Park – home of the Chiefs, and an award-winning conference, banqueting and events centre in its own right. Sandy Park is the leading conference facility in the South West and plays host to a wide corporate market nationally. Our challenge here is to help them continue this success, and to support their growth strategy through 2018.
