ABOUT
The project was part of my HND graded Unit back in college of 2018.
The brief was to pick 3 jazz artists and their corresponding album to create illustration work for using a limited colour palette and have all the albums work cohesively as part of a collection but have them be able to stand on their own. For each artist i chose to dive into their personal life and use that as inspiration for aspects of each illustration with their chosen colour palettes coming from already existing images of the artist.
Astrud Gilberto "Look To The Rainbow" - For Astrud Gilberto and her album i wanted to emphasise the summer feel and atmosphere that came from the existing album so i chose to use bright floral artwowrk with a warm orange as the background
Ella Fitzgerald "Jazz Collection" - Ella Fitzgerald was known as the "Queen of Jazz" and "Lady Ella" and taking into account those names for her i decided to aim towards purples which have association as a colour with royalty. Also by featuring "Birdland" in the background the work pays homage to her achievememnt and being a notable performer at said club
Gregory Porter "Liquid Spirit" - For Gregory Porter i wanted to highlight his roots in New York so chose to feature a city skyline in the background.
Miled Davis "Kind Of Blue" - In this work i wanted to highlight the clubs of 52nd Street New York that hosted the legendary jazz musician. The colours chosen were to represent the bright lights of the street and its signs for the clubs all lit up.
