ABOUT

This desk involves an area of furniture making I wanted to explore, with the challenge of working with naturally shaped wood.

I had a good idea of the general shape of the table I wanted to make, but unlike the usual way, where I design all the components of the furniture and predefine the shape of each component, I decided to let the wood shape itself. The way this was done was through splitting the wood and following the shape of the grain, using a wide range of hand tools. I had to refine each component in order for it to work with the general look I was aiming to achieve.
The entire base has no square or flat areas, which makes the joinery of the base very challenging. The base and the drawer are made of cherry and the top is walnut with copper inlay and copper drawer handle.

Due to my experience in high-end furniture production, I am very aware of maintaining top quality throughout, and I am very happy with the result.
