Disaster Survival for Kids – Illustration & Character Design

I illustrated a four-book children's educational series for author Tanya, focused on teaching disaster preparedness and survival skills through engaging storytelling. The project combined practical safety information with a cast of unique characters designed to help young readers connect with important real-world lessons.

A major challenge was transforming a set of simple cartoon concepts into a memorable cast capable of carrying an entire book series. Using principles of shape design and character development, I refined each character to have a distinct silhouette, personality, and visual identity while maintaining their original appeal and purpose.

Throughout the project, I worked to balance education and entertainment, ensuring that potentially serious topics remained approachable and engaging for children. The illustrations were designed not only to support the story but also to reinforce key learning outcomes through visual storytelling.
