About me
I believe I have the skills required for this position through almost ten years experience in audio , with three of them being audio technology intensive focus through university.
My interest in Audio Engineer dates back to 8 years ago, when I bought my first home
recorder just a year after starting to play guitar. It was a Zoom MRS-8. I made home
recordings of instruments, voices and various noises for years.
In university I discovered the power of computer based technologies. Skills I developed
from three years of studies include:
- An in depth knowledge of Pro Tools and Ableton Live.
- Audio editing techniques, such as splicing, duplicating and trimming. The music I
create is often both sample based, which has allowed me to develop these techniques,
and live instrument, voice and sound based, which has developed my audio capturing
skills.
- Some assignments and work completed in the past few years include a radio
presenting assignment, recording a live music E.P and placing audio and foley
sounds to a given video clip. Such work has given me a knowledge of how to
regulate volume levels and sound quality during sessions, mic placement techniques,
mixdown techniques and developed my overall "ear" for achieving great results.
- I feel at home surrounded by audio technologies. During university I was given the
opportunity to work with numerous pieces of equipment. The mixing console I had
the most experience with from this time was the Audient ASP 8024. This comprised
of 80 inputs with 24 outputs, multi-band channel eqs, 12 Aux buses, talkback option,
in-built preamp and compressor, amongst many other various features.
I also have had extensive use of the Alesis HD24 24 track hard disk recorder.
Some mics I had the opportunity to use here were the classic Shure SM57/58s,
Neumann KM As, amongst many various others from companies like AKG and
Sennheiser
- I have a knowledge of technical terms related to sound engineering, such as:
balanced/unbalanced inputs, microphone patterns, equipment names, dB etc.
Some equipment I currently own myself include Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6,
Akai APC40 , various guitars, keyboards and piano, Audio Technica ATHM50 Headphones
and KRK Rokit 5 speakers.
