Sebastian Whyte Film Director

ABOUT

Sebastian Whyte directs the powerful and beautifully crafted promo for Rambert Dance in Peaky Blinders - The Redemption of Thomas Shelby.

The Redemption of Thomas Shelby is a live dance theatre event written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and choreographed and directed by Rambert's Artistic Director Benoit Swan Pouffer.

The idea behind the trailer was to create a campaign that sits comfortably beside the TV series, paying homage but not a tribute, it should stand in it's own right. These films had to be reflective of the talent involved (both in the future touring event and the making of the trailers).

Research for the project took many shapes from: Seb and DoP Paul Mackay’s discussions into cameras, lenses and the joys of tungsten light, to the guns used, set design; and Seb picking colourist Simone Grattarola’s brains for information. Steven even gave a little insight into the mindset of various characters!

The result is a trailer that transcends you through the Peaky Blinders lifestyle, with drama, tension, love and tenderness and a battle. Beautiful cinematography that leans on the amazing work in the series, but also beyond. The edit balances pace, tone, movement and rhythm. All along it hints at narrative being at the core of the live show.
