ABOUT

Arushi is a Bhopal-based not-for-profit organization working with and for people with disabilities and issues related to them. Having volunteered for them as an illustrator for years, I was asked to paint a wall at the entrance with something fun for the kids to look at and relate with. More than the outcome, the days spent on site were significant, owing to the interactions with the kids I had the pleasure of being a part of. A visually impaired guy used to come and compliment the work everyday while it was on, and upon being asked by a worker how he could be sure without being able to see, he’d say “If someone’s trying to do something and spending time on it, it has got to be beautiful.” I hope I feel that way as well, someday if not now, about myself and the things around me. Also, I’m not sure if I could match up to his expectations, but I tried.
