About me

I am writing to you to apply for the role of Web Editor. I am confident that I have the skills and experience to carry out this role to a very high standard and I also feel it is something I would really enjoy.

I have over six years' writing and editorial experience, with a specialism in online content. My experience includes writing features, news, newsletters, case studies, blogs and more. I am also experienced with audio and video content and have set up and managed social media accounts.

I have undertaken training in SEO writing and writing for the web and I am committed to continuing to develop my skills in the digital field.

I have experience of writing about employment issues and skills due to my specialism in HR/education. I have written for a wide range of organisations on these issues including AimHigher, DirectGov, Workplace Law Network, Personnel Today, The Guardian, Nursing Standard, School Management Today and more. As I regularly write in these areas, I keep up with policy and have a number of good contacts.

I have just come to the end of a project as a freelance Online Content Manager, managing and writing content for the new Tyneside cinema website (*). I have written all copy for the new site, as well as created style guides and guidelines on maintaining a consistent tone for all marketing materials.

I have worked with the cinema on new ways they can exploit multimedia content and social media such as Facebook, Twitter and a Vimeo channel, to market the cinema, communicate key messages and appeal to new and existing audiences.
I worked with a developer, designer and UX expert on the development of the site and a brand new content management system. We added new features to the site such as the ability to comment and rate on films, the ability to set reminders and the opportunity to vote for new films and films to show again.

Before that I worked as a freelance Content Manager for * (GCSE revision podcasts) launched and was responsible for key tasks such as copywriting for the site and marketing materials, generating podcast content from scratch, and creating and implementing content schedules and style guides. I made sure that the site and content is user-friendly for all, whether they are a GCSE student, teacher or parent. We used sound and moving images on the website to showcase the content that is available to buy.

Once the site had launched, I was responsible for finding new ways of communicating with and marketing to GCSE students, teachers and other interested parties. I set up the GCSEPod blog, Twitter account and Facebook page, as well as contributing to a regular newsletter. The Twitter account, for example, quickly built up a following of almost 1,000 people and became a useful tool for engaging with customers, students and education professionals. We additionally set up a YouTube channel. I undertook extensive research into identifying potential partners such as affiliates, links and media contacts.

I have strong writing skills and have written for a wide range of organisations and publications in both journalistic and commercial capacities. I am able to write in various formats for a range of audiences. Examples of my work are available at *.

My editing skills are excellent and my background in publishing has given me a good eye for detail. I fully appreciate the need for a website to be well-written and accurate in order to be engaging and to appear professional and credible. Due to my specialism in online content, I have used a wide range of web publishing tools, including content management systems, blogging platforms, html, image editing software, Dreamweaver, html and more.

I have successfully worked on similar projects on a remote basis and I have a fully equipped home office.
I have developed a genuine interest in using the web to engage with an audience and generate two-way communication and I am committed to continuing to work and develop in this area.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application and I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours sincerely

Sarah Wray
