About me
Presently I am Exhibitions & Events Manager for Cinecity, The Brighton Film Festival. For seven years I've led projects in the visual arts and cultural sector and more specifically in the last three years I've exhibited film and worked with Moving Image artists for the Screen Archive South East.
I am a dynamic and ambitious
Cinecity brings the best Artists Moving Image, archive footage, previews and independent films from all over the world, to cinema-going audiences in the South East. I've had a wonderful insight into these two complex industries and the 'Black box and the White Cube' debate, demonstrated perfectly by the BFIs recent and mesmerising exhibition of Palme d'Or winner Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Phantom's of Nabua. As well as the Duke of York's Picturehouse, I'm familiar with the network of venues across the city and region during the festival; Light house Digital Arts, The Basement, De La Waar Pavilion (Bexhill on sea) , Odeon & Cineworld Cinemas, Phoenix Brighton, Fabrica Permanent Gallery and the Grey Area.
Exhibiting Film
I manage the Artist Moving Image Feature each year, covering all levels of exhibition management, with internationally renowned film-artists. From curatorial development stage; meeting the artists, supporting festival directors/curators, selecting works, commissioning elements of film or supporting materials, writing contracts, designing print & distribution. Through to practical on-site production skills; preparing schedules, gallery construction plans, art handling & transport, management of gallery technicians, purchasing, insurance, budget management, to event planning launches, private views and Q+A sessions.
I liase with internship and volunteer schemes Project V & Wired Sussex to co-ordinate volunteers who help to make the festal happen, marketing, front of house and document the festival activity, photographically on film and on audio podcasts. I work closely and regularly with our independent designers 6970 Design and Studiotonne and personally use use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, in-design and manage the in-house picture database.
Working for established Film Makers & Artists
Some of the established film makers, artists and composers I've coordinated screenings for include; Gem Cohen, Andrew Kotting, Jeff Keen, Semi-Conductor, Geoff Smith, Ian Helliwell & curator Catherine Elwes' Figuring Landscapes Series.
Last year, I exhibited the films of prestigious artist, writer and Canadian Pavilion representative at the 2009 Venice Biennale - MARK LEWIS. Bringing to Brighton the UK premier of Nathan Phillips Square: A Winter's Night Skating, the documentary Back-story and Cinecity commission Hendon FC. For the Private View I coordinated and stage-managed a Q+A between Mark and his life-time mentor and renowned film expert Professor Laura Mulvey.
In 2008, I worked with the legendary animators THE QUAY BROTHERS, for the exhibition Inventorium. An exhibition comprising of a newly commissioned installation by Opera North, EURYDICE: She So Beloved (Exhibition materials and commissioned essay attached), film decors Dormitorium and personal collection of their Polish Film posters.
I am Exhibitions co-ordinator for one of the largest gallery and studio spaces in the South East. My main experience is artist liason and co-ordinatiing mulit-media installations, for establised mid-weight and often award winning artists on an annual gallery programme. I also support over 100 creative practioners based in the studios. I have assisted with and led on big events. Last year I managed the city wide Children's, Food and Science Festivals for Brighton & Hove. This was renound cultural and entertainment venues; including the Brighton Pavillion, Sallis Benney Theatre, Komedia and Duke of Yorks Picture House. On all projects I 'm heavily invoolved in and drive marketing and publicity. I work with photographers and film makers on event documentation and evaluation. I am very hands on in a team, developed from working in Art Departments . And whilst I am based in Brighon I'm happy to travel. Most recently I assisted on-set for a Channel 4 drama documentary, shot in Montreal, to be released in October 2008. Used to working in small but dedicated arts teams, I am a proactive and creative thinker and I thrive on responsibility and a challenge.
