Influenced by the aesthetic of the film Emma, I delved into researching the intricate details of bonnets depicted in the period, focusing on historical accuracy and exploring alternative colour palettes. This university endeavour became an exercise in experimentation, as I navigated the myriad of techniques for constructing a straw bonnet. Drawing insights from historical hat-making books and modern online resources, I innovated upon traditional methods, from manipulating wet straw for enhanced flexibility to skillfully stitching to a base for optimal security. The project demanded meticulous attention to detail and extensive trial and error to achieve a refined final piece.
