ABOUT

This is the cover I designed for Amar Chitra Katha's 'Shakti: Tales of the Mother Goddess' comic.

It was clear from the start that we wanted an Indian calendar art style on the cover with the goddess Adi Shakti as she is described in the Puranas. I made various sketches and initially we had planned to give her typical Vishnu-like blue skin. Then we felt a connection with her and thought that it would be brilliant if we drew her as a brown-skinned woman, representing us. Originally, we had a lot of elements on the cover including all of her 10 hands with weapons, but from a marketing point of view we thought that it would be better if we reduced the number of elements. So, we decided that the final cover can just have her face on it because the focal point would be clear and also her strength would show in her confident stare rather than all the weapons she holds in her hands.
This cover went ahead to win the gold in Comic Con's 'Best comic book cover of the year award, 2018'
A special page within the comic was also illustrated by me.
