ABOUT

This was a collaborative project with my father professor Andrew Parry, the project originally set out to build a bridge between the two worlds of science and design, in an effort to find some kind of common ground but resulted in becoming something entirely different.

It took my father years and years to crack a problem in science known as "The Wetting Problem" it revolves around how droplets of fluid hit flat surfaces. Whilst it sounds dull as can be it baffled scientists for decades. My father solved it, but in order for him to do he had to create his very own visual vocabulary, only known to him to solve the problem. A complex equation was in fact solved through the beauty of mark making and design.

I created a book exploring his notations over the years and how they slowly evolved into creating symbols of an entirely alien language. I traced over five years worth of writings, giving them their own stylistic flare, re-contexualsing them for an art book whilst at the same explaining how the equation works to someone with no knowledge with regards to how the nature of maths or science works.
