About me

Dear Sir/Madame,

I've recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, securing a grade of first in Bsc(Hons) Multimedia Computing. I'm currently looking for a job and aspire to find work in Flash development.

I've worked with Flash since school, both within my studies and in my free time. As a schoolboy I was fascinated by the creative possibility it provided, firstly the animation aspect and then as I developed programming skills the interactive/game based functionality it possessed. Each day I'd visit websites such as newgrounds.com and kongregate.com to investigate the newest Flash games, animations and news. I was very interested in this culture, which lead me to pursue this subject through college and ultimately through university. I picked Multimedia Computing as a degree over any other because it was the most Flash heavy degree that my university offered. I choose to implement my dissertation within Flash despite my allocated project possibly being better suited to another medium, as I felt I could use it create something ambitious and impressive and enjoy myself doing it. I believe this interest has allowed be to develop far stronger Flash/AS3 skills and knowledge than most graduates in my position.

Throughout the five years I've spent in higher education I've consistently practised web design, and subsequently developed strong web development skills. I'm fluent in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and ASP.

My university course has also seen a strong focus on database management, in particular Oracle and SQL. I've had classes practising SQL every academic week of each year I've been at university and have been taught the language in depth with attention to many of the more elaborate principles and techniques.

I've also spent a lot of time working within Photoshop and Illustrator throughout school, college and university for academic purposes, as well as in my own time, and also doing freelance work such as room plans for my local hospital and post renovation images for a car garage. I've also had some experience using InDesign and although I don't use it frequently, I've a strong idea of how it works and find I can translate my skills from other pieces of software to it with no difficulty. I tend to use a graphics tablet most of my editing.

In summary I feel this role would be near perfect for me, this is an area that I'm passionate about working in and I'd like to think I'd be very capable at doing so.

Regards,

Samuel Scarles.
