The Dark Creature

On this project, I was inspired by my dissertation topic ‘‘Psychology of the genre Horror.’’
I have always been interested in the psychology of fear and where it comes from in the human subconscious. From here I chose the most terrible and widespread fear - the fear of darkness. The peculiarity of this phobia is that the individual is not afraid of darkness in itself - as a lack of sufficient illumination. His fear is aimed at a possible situation - a surprise, and is associated with ignorance of what “surprises” are darkness and what can be encountered in it. Not seeing real objects, without providing the brain with sufficient information for analysis because of the inability of the visual organs to perceive and transmit a picture, the imagination begins to work hard. Based on the existing fear of darkness, the imagination actively draws scary, frightening plots, and nifobob begins to distinctly “see” those pictures that are not in reality. It is with this interpretation of anxiety that one can speak of the gradual transition of ordinary fear into a pathological disorder.
It is a well-known fact that fears find their “admirers” in all age groups of people, despite their social status and life experience. Although specialists have established that certain phobic anxieties are more common, especially strong, they often appear in childhood. In the first place among phobias, leading their origins in childhood, there is no-one phobia - fear of darkness.
With an unfavourable course of phobia, these intimidating images are so firmly entrenched in the mind and begin to predominate over the reality world, which translates into the category of persistent visual pseudo-hallucinations. Such a fantasy perception of really non-existent phenomena and objects, as a rule, is accompanied by the absence of doubts and criticism from the side of the individual.
Hence, monsters are born that are hidden under the bed, behind the door or in the closet.
In this project, I returned home where I grew up to remember my own monsters.
Together with Catherine, George and Philip, we tried to give fear the face and the image connected by surrealistic dreams and imagination activity in the dark.

We wanted to create something that can scare me to this day. Something sinister that can hide in the dark. What makes the blood run cold and the hair stand on end. Something otherworldly.
