About me

I have recently completed a PhD in documentary film, a part of which was producing a feature length documentary on climate change, the other part a written submission, sections of which have already been published in academic journals, evidencing my ability as a writer. The project involved walking the coast of Wales, interviewing whomever I met along the path, to discover their perceptions on climate change. The intention was to produce a film which featured the voices of ordinary people, rather than climate experts, to see what the public really feel about our environmental crisis. The conditions were challenging, it was an extraordinary wet month, and it was essential that I kept all AV equipment dry and safe, whilst still ensuring I caught the content I required. My background in radio production and freelance film work provided me with the experience necessary to cope with these challenges.

I recently undertook a multimedia content producer role for the literary magazine 'New Welsh Review producing multimedia content. The contract was extended by the editor in order for me to produce a film about a Wales-wide literary competition hosted by the WWF. This was screened at an official opening ceremony and was considered a great success. As someone who has worked inside and outside of the public service broadcasting environments, I am keenly aware of the need for consistency and branding in content. During my time with 'The New Welsh Review' I assisted in developing systems to streamline both branding and consistency in the delivery of video. As a marketing tool for the magazine we used Vimeo as a platform to distribute video and audio content, the combination of which I feel really enriched the print publication.

I have worked in the high pressure environment of BBC Radio, making content for current affairs programmes and art strands, which enabled me to gain valuable experience in a high pressure newsroom environment. As a freelancer I needed to make sure that I could cost, devise and ultimately carry out all projects in line with strict and tight TX dates, bearing in mind the high standards of the BBC and the various programme styles. Prior to this I worked in the financial industry, with Skandia Life (now Old Mutual). Here I was a marketing assistant in assurance, and gained experience in dealing directly with clients.

As a practitioner I have worked in the radio industry at both regional and national level, specifically for the BBC, produced two feature length film documentaries (one currently in post production), one of which was screened several times in the UK and in Poland. I have produced short film work for World Wildlife Fund, Literature Wales, New Welsh Review, Hundred Acre Recordings, Dulas Engineering and Snowdonia National Park among others.

I am keen to embark upon a new project, bringing with me the skills gained during my PhD, and would be eager to discuss the role and provide links to my audio and visual portfolio.
