ABOUT

Concept
At Cannes Lions 2024, Amazon set out to redefine how it shows up at the world’s premier festival for creativity. The goal was not just to make an impression, but to create an immersive destination that would captivate the industry’s most visionary minds. Inspired by France’s iconic fashion houses and rooted in Amazon’s own “From Ads to Zeitgeist” research, the concept for A’Maison: The House of Amazon was born—a cultural village that would showcase Amazon not just as a marketplace or media platform, but as a catalyst for culture, creativity, and connection. The brand sought to go beyond traditional B2B engagement, aiming instead to blur the lines between B2B and B2C by crafting an experience that felt deeply human, elegant, and emotionally resonant.

This research revealed that audiences today crave belonging and shared values. Amazon saw an opportunity to meet this cultural moment by designing an environment where customers could see, feel, and interact with the brand’s universe of offerings in tangible and memorable ways. With that guiding insight, Amazon envisioned a space that would bring its diverse properties together under one unified creative and strategic umbrella, positioning itself not only as a business partner but as a home for modern culture.

**Execution**
Constructed atop a blank lot overlooking the sea, A’Maison was more than a physical space—it was a multi-sensory journey through the Amazon ecosystem. The experience merged high design with high impact, featuring thoughtfully curated zones that allowed visitors to engage with each Amazon property in a fully immersive setting. From a museum-style exhibition to a garden with a 3D-printed rosé fountain, every corner of the space was built to inspire wonder, spark conversation, and showcase innovation.

The activation included a lively café offering iced coffee and snacks, a museum filled with interactive sculptures representing each Amazon brand, and a visually stunning VIP garden wrapped in turquoise trelliswork and terracotta tiles, all designed with a Côte d'Azur flair. Programming took place at the central Plaza Stage, where cultural figures like Gwyneth Paltrow, Alix Earle, and Brooklyn Beckham joined global executives, including McDonald’s CMO, for impactful conversations on creativity and commerce. The meeting rooms, which incorporated generative AI to design custom wallpaper, reflected Amazon’s commitment to merging technology with storytelling in unexpected ways.

Every Amazon property—from Twitch and Amazon Studios to AWS, Prime Video, IMDb, Wondery, and Amazon Live—was embedded in the experience. Visitors played IMDb trivia, listened to podcast previews, generated AI postcards of themselves, and discovered new live sports features, all while gaining a deeper understanding of how each brand provides a unique channel to engage communities. Facing the bustling Promenade de la Pantiero, four large-scale “Les Fenêtres” display windows previewed what guests could find inside, spotlighting Twitch, AWS, Amazon Studios, and Amazon Live Sports in vibrant, visual storytelling.

Amazon deliberately prioritized quality over quantity in its content approach. Instead of offering an overwhelming number of sessions, the brand spotlighted seven high-impact conversations, down from fourteen the previous year, with better curation, elevated speakers, and a sharper focus on delivering value to attendees. This intentional reduction allowed for greater depth and a stronger narrative arc throughout the week. The physical experience was amplified by a robust digital campaign that stretched across social media, email, out-of-home placements, and sponsored content. A particularly memorable billboard—reading “A’Maison: It’s French for Ads”—played with the event’s French setting and encapsulated the playful sophistication of the overall activation.

**Results**
The impact of A’Maison was immediate and far-reaching. Over the course of the week, the space welcomed 6,189 unique visitors, a 10% year-over-year increase, with guests representing more than 100 countries and 18% holding C-level titles. Attendance for Amazon Port content surged by 253% compared to the previous year, driven by a focus on fewer but more resonant moments. The highest attended session drew 750 guests, while the average session attracted 378 attendees, proving the value of Amazon’s elevated programming approach.

Engagement extended well beyond the physical site. Digitally, Amazon posted 53 dedicated social media pieces throughout the event, resulting in 3,600 engagements and a 60% year-over-year increase in median engagement across platforms. Earned social conversation about Amazon Ads at Cannes Lions rose by an impressive 170%, and traffic to the “From Ads to Zeitgeist” research page reached 77,000 views through QR scans placed throughout the exhibit. Amazon’s presence across the festival included 44 speaking sessions—up 193% year-over-year—further reinforcing the brand’s role as a thought leader and cultural convener.

By the time the doors closed on A’Maison, Amazon had accomplished more than just a successful activation. It had created a memorable, multidimensional experience that positioned the brand as a true home of culture, storytelling, and commerce. Attendees left with a clearer, more emotionally resonant understanding of how Amazon helps brands reach people—not just as consumers, but as community members, creators, and participants in culture. For Amazon, A’Maison proved that when strategy, storytelling, and design come together, even a parking lot can become the most sought-after address at Cannes Lions.
