ABOUT
Despite producing some of the world's most renowned storytellers; Shakespeare, Ian Fleming, Jane Austin and JRR Tolkien, etc. UK film studios are outdated and inadequate. Marlow Film Studios is a state-of-the-art film studio for British filmmaking. It's set to become the premier destination for high-end TV and film production, attracting the world's greatest storytellers. Marlow Film Studios offers a modern and eco-friendly environment that supports the growth of young talent and utilises the latest technology for breath-taking results.
Brief
The identity for Marlow Film Studios had to satisfy two very different audiences; community engagement was a vital aspect of the initial work as the project was developed, but the brand will need to reach beyond Marlow, to appeal to film-makers from around the world who are looking for a state-of-the-art centre from which they can bring their stories to life. It needs to become an iconic, global brand that will inspire story-makers for generations to come.
Design solution
The shape of the logo is based on the historic suspension bridge that crosses the Thames River in Marlow; an iconic symbol sitting at the heart of the community. The M-shaped design becomes a metaphor for the bridging of ideas and skills; a meeting point for story-makers arriving from destinations across the world. We use the logo to show these connections. From directors to distributors, from camera to action, from script to screen, from Marlow to the world.
Results
The brand helped to create compelling planning applications and public consultation events. Over 1,000 people registered on the website within the first month and 17 community and local business groups have given their support to the project.
The Marlow Film Studios planning application was validated by Buckinghamshire Council in June 2022.
“It was hugely helpful to have the design so completely worked out at this early stage. It really projected the professionalism and creativity that is at the heart of this huge endeavour. At the planning stages we are pulling together presentations from numerous sources and the design style made the whole document feel much more coherent and well-resolved. “
