The college I worked at had ties with Manchester Airport. These ties allowed them to run a course which would help people gain employment within the airport. However, the allocated section for the academy had gone un touched for a number of years and it not only gave them a bad image but also the college as a whole.

I was asked to spear head giving the academy a fresh new look along side a new branding image. I started this project by visiting the academy so I could get an idea of how it looked, what was needed and if the staff members had any suggestions. Overall, the whole place needed improving. With the limited budget and short deadline I had to work to, we decided to make most of the changes front of house. This would include new frosted logos on the entrance, the installion of a plasma screen to display various information at the front and a new desk front to give a more professional look to the place. The graphical side of things we decided to focus on case studies of various students and to re brand all current information, which was currently hand written and just stuck on the wall.

The new branding I went for was to use a simple plane illustration throughout each piece. Hopefully creating an icon that would become recognizable to people visiting. This would be used alongside a strong shade of blue. I chose blue because the colleges main colour was blue so I wanted to create that link but I also see blue as a good linking colour to the airport because it generates images of flying through a bright blue sky.

The outcome was a huge success and the staff members of the academy were very pleased. The front of the academy now had a more of a professional/ welcoming look with its new signage and information to draw people in was clearly displayed on the new screen. The walls of the academy were now decorated in professional generated graphics, correctly mounted and framed on the walls of the main entrance and class room. I was pleased with this because I had never spear headed anything like this so was proud when it all came together.
