ABOUT
Concept:
Hello, to those who do not know me, my name is Ronald Segovia, and I am an illustrator and 3D artist.
For years, I have been passionate about the idea of bringing pieces and products made by me to the streets that people can enjoy.
When I was still studying I got it into my head to make an Illustrated deck of cards and since then it has been an idea that has been around.
I was developing this project for a long time, fighting to finish it while working was a titanic task.
But it's ready now, and available.
This project means the culmination of what has really been a dream. Being able to create my own product that I am proud of and that is so close to the topics that I am passionate about.
Cartas a Venezuela was born from the feeling of longing for and connection with our land, as an immigrant and as a Venezuelan, it inspired me to promote our country by representing our culture, flavors, places, and personalities that have made up a land of contrasts. We have a beautiful country, and I hope that at some point we will be able to be the Latin American powerhouse that we deserve, Venezuela is not its rulers, we are the people that make it up.
Cards have a special meaning in my family because it is common for us to get together in free time to play some games of Rummy, it is and has been something we can share, talking about anything we want and hanging out, it is a moment of community and connection. Growing up in Venezuela I fondly remember playing cards near the beach in San Juan de los Cayos, weekends at my grandparents' house, or trips touring Venezuela that used to include a couple of decks to play with. For me this project is also my way of paying tribute to my family and all those memories.
Execution:
The deck of cards is made up of 56 poker cards, 54 representing themes interconnected by each number and symbol, and 2 with the description of what each of the cards represents.
They were printed with casino quality by the USPCC company, one of the most prominent card producers in the world, if you have used any of their products such as Bicycle or Bee cards, you know that they are of good quality and resistant, in addition to having experience producing for independent creators.
As this is a tribute to Venezuela, part of the profits will go to a charitable cause there.
I hope you enjoy the cards, they are available for purchase in my website for mail delivery across the world, and in selected locations available for pickup and direct purchase.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my project, by supporting the project you are supporting a family, an independent artist, and a dream, thank you!!
Results:
So far my deck of cards has traveled around the world, there are copies In South Korea, South Africa, Europe, South America and North America, the idea Im proud to say has inspired fellow immigrants from my home country to reconnect to our roots and culture, so far I haven't reached my goal of copies sold, but is an ongoing effort given that I'm running a team of one, still the most satisfaction I've gotten from the project was that I made it happen, something that didn't exist before now exist and is out in the world, and that to me has been the greatest joy.
